Ashes In The Wind

by Wil Alvarez

The black pearls on white satin were hidden gates to pain and sorrow.
Inside, life was the currency to trade for mortal and ephemeral dreams;
dreams that may not become true, dreams that may be mere illusions,
dreams that weren't looking for redemption but for victims to suck up
their souls. Creatures from the dark concealing their true intentions;
high stands of skulls and bones grabbing furtively their prey like
invisible tentacles, and whisperer demons luring them like moths to a flame.
Desires burning like hellfire and old phantoms dying in your face
over and over again, bodies are so frail that the spirits won't prevail
and breaking the chains of regret will be the only path to get away.
A dark moon under a bright sun signals the end of a nightmare,
where the demons will drown in the electric blue and the creatures
will succumb to the darkness, whilst the beat of the drums of war lacerates
your conscience relentlessly and tears down your dreams,
like ashes in the wind.
