Waning Gibbous

by Meg Smith
For Chuck Losey

Each of us
moves
in a measure of shadow.
We can know ourselves
as that shadow ebbs
within and without.
Here, it shimmers
across
the gray map
of all we have cast
on that bright plain—
mountains, seas,
love songs.
Each, like the light
that falls,
bids an unspoken
return.
