Memories of Carcosa

by Jean Jones

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.

The King in Yellow Act 1, Scene 2

Am I dead in the ancient and famous city of Carcosa?
What is the nature of death?
Who is the King in Yellow?

Are we in Carcosa now?
Are the black stars rising?
Tell me, where is this place down south?

Where is the bride’s path?
Where is Carcosa?
What is located in the constellation of Taurus?

Who wrote the Complete Book on the Judgment of the Stars?
What does the Repairer of Reputations say?
Who wrote In the Court of the Dragon?

Song of my soul, my voice is dead.
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa.

“I knew that these were ruins of the ancient and famous city of Carcosa.”
