The Creature

by Ron Bruno

The creature is now just staring at me.
Do I have enough time to run,
Or stand here and let it devour me?
My life flashes before my eyes.
I wish I had a second chance,
I’ve taken life for granted.
It seems it is now my time.
If I run eventually it will catch me.
There is no escape,
I’ll take my fate as a man.
The creature nears,
Closer and closer it gets.
I close my eyes and wait. Will this hurt? I wonder to myself.
Here we go; I could feel the creatures breath on me.
Oh God why me?
‘Where the hell have you been all night?’ the creature asked.
‘Out with the guys’ I replied.
“You could have called!’ the creature blasted out.
‘I’m sorry’ I quivered.
The creature walks away and goes up the stairs.
I guess I’m sleeping on the couch tonight
