On Unclean Snow
by N. J. Kailhofer

It fell to earth on unclean snow-
An icy flight of self-spawn'd hate
For something only you will know.

The chilling winds to you do blow
While a graying mist makes me late;
It fell to earth on unclean snow.

To the walk on the bridge I go
Yearly on this same dismal date
For something only you will know.

Water under the ice below
Was born to bear an unkind fate;
It fell to earth on unclean snow.

My hopeful seed will never grow;
On the railing I sat to wait
For something only you will know.

Surprise hands over eyes just so;
My body damning your bold trait.
It fell to earth on unclean snow
For something only you will know
