The Defendant

by Christopher T. Dabrowski

Translated from Polish by Julia Mraczny

“The defendant will rise!”

“Does the defendant confess to the deeds of which he is accused?”

“No!” I shouted, knowing that it was for nothing. Despite my innocence, I realized they needed a scapegoat.

“A lot of things were found in your sack, probably stolen. Furthermore, you were caught committing a lewd act on a minor.”

Of course, they misrepresented everything. I had gifts in my sack. I fulfilled my duty of delivering them to children. And for the lewd act... I stroke the child's head while giving a gift. It is hard to be Santa Claus in these sick times...
