The Accursed Conscience

by Max Bindi

I woke up screaming
to the death cry
of a ghost city
in a haunted room
at the top
of a bleak house
dripping blood.
And I wiped away
the cold sweat
from the beaded forehead
of my severed head
lying on the dusty
cobwebbed sheets
of an eternal dying bed.
While the dusky demon
crouched on my chest
nightmarishly complained
about my broken screaming nerves
disturbing his hellish rest.
