El Monstro De Mejico/The Monster Of Mexico

by Juan Manuel Perez

state of Coahuila
goat pens of Piedras Negras
old farm in the woods

a herdsman still lives
if in fact, that is living
scared of his shadow

sometimes when he's drunk
you might hear him scream out loud
a fear from his past

then, in a whisper
as if to catch his last breath
you might hear him speak

of a deep, dark night
that he relives everyday
while wasting away

fractions of the tale
of the loss of his left eye
unlucky friends

so much more went wrong
when hell came to men and goats
el chupacabras
