A Hovercar's Tale

by Peter Ong

When a car could fly in the sky, a great many things passengers could see,
the horizon, the trees, the landscape in all its glory.
Thus so true what people say, "In a hovercar, one could go places almost limitless:
"No boundaries, not many obstacles, no need to follow the terrain. . .
"Just fly above hill and valley and dale. . .
"Go on driver. . . blaze your own trail!"

Silent is the night air as the full white moon shines amore
as I rest on a cliff overlooking the seashore.
With two lovers in me hugging and kissing
and holding hands
I wait to see if anything is about to happen.

Fast I flew as my thrusters could take me
drowned out by the cries of the baby.
I flew as straight as I could
to only one destination understood---
Granville Hospital for the wailing young chap---
Parents talking fast told me of the mishap.
A bonk to the head for the little tiny tot
Made prominent by the little blood spot.
I sat in the lot for an hour or two when two adult faces came into view.
Smiles gave me a sigh of relief, overcoming my fear of tragedy and grief.

Or the night after this big sky light show of red flowers and orange daisies and yellow cascading domes. . .
. . . and after it was all through, six people collapsed in me kinda unsteady. . .
Giggling and tittering and squeaking from the fun
With a touch of a few buttons, up I lifted and autopiloted each to their homes.
Good night, Ann. Good night, Mark, and Jacob, and Joline. Good night, Sandra. And finally, good night, Betty.

More tales to me told as I fly on: of lovers, of friends, of parties and concerts and movie outings.
And when my owners and passengers are through,
so I will fly as straight and true,
and drop each and every one from the yonder sky blue
in safety, in comfort, in style, in smoothness, across distance and obstacles. . .
This. . . I will do!
