Monsters by Jake Zawlacki

*Spoiler Alert* I can be pretty picky about the horror that I like, but I really liked this. I liked the empathy I felt for Greg, the slow unfolding of what had happened to him; the idea that sometimes it is the confrontation with the thing or person who hurt us that makes healing possible. I just thought this was well put together and hit all the right notes at exactly the right time.

And, of course, I especially loved the hopefulness at the end. He's stopped seeing the monsters; he's stood up to his dad; and he's ready, finally, to move on. Sometimes happy endings can feel forced or contrived, but this one felt real.

Well done!
