Pack a Lunch
By: Hunger For What Burns
Dedicated to Tammy, you have and will make a very bad decision but there still is time...
He smiled at me; white teeth, black skin, sneakers new and red.
Some say he's a, "Gangsta," to me, I call him Jim.
We played together back on the block, until
until (such a word, an expectation of change, of hope, of waiting for the eventual outcome)
until the money,
the power,
the girl,
until the darkness of evil came along.
I was sitting on the 109, looking out at my life
he was sitting in the convertible, tapping out the song with his gold,
until,
until he returned my bold stare with his smile.
I felt my heart quicken,
skin glowing and sticky with sweat,
feeling very strange and powerful emotions,
I turned and looked again.
It was only a blur
another dark form in black
threw down his hot-dog
pulled his hood over his head
drew a gun from his waist...
No longer the smile
Jim lay bleeding and dead,
an act some would call physics,
others would believe fate,
whatever it is,
Jim and I will be together now
for flying lead with the force of kinetic power
shattered too my window
a window of life
leaving the world my last smile.
