To Protect and Serve by Richard Tornello

Damn -- I thought the house was gonna get the guy hooked up . . . well, it was, until he said the wrong thing. Why would it care about old history, though?

Lesson: 1) learn the difference between benign and dangerous thoughts
2) Don't think out loud until you do
I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?

Well, he was living in a Tea Party Paradise, so he and the world had to be protected from anything like independent thought...

You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.

A little Big Brother, electronic spying, a lot of surveillance cameras all over, AI facial recognition, and might I add, other nameless governments habits of arresting writers and artists as threats to the state? (maybe the pen is mightier than the sword, or maybe thought is more dangerous than a country full of sheep or sleeping brains). Need I go on?

It also had to deal with friendship, companionship and trust. If all you have is a toy stuffed rabbit, that becomes your friend. If as an adult, you're brought up accepting a HLC as real and a trusted member of your life, think what liberties can be taken, and not just by governments.

Idea came to me in a soaking tub, really. I actually said, "house dim the lights and keep the temperature the same." The house ignored me. The story was roughed out that night.
