The Trip of a Lifetime by Richard Tornello

Hey, I must have fallen asleep . . . what happened? Did I miss the tour? Oh, damn . . . well, at least I'm not out anything for the fare . . .

Seriously -- my impression of this story is that a significant part of it somehow got lost.
I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?

The way I see it the story acually is too long. It should have ended with the revelation of where those kids are trying to go. That story however would not really fit into the scope of a Webzine of Science Fictiion and Fantasy.

The vanishing theme adds the hint at a possibility of something out of the ordinary happening, but does not really add to the story; besides possibly - as I take it form Lester's post - confusion. It's kind of a fig leaf hiding the fact that you are already completely dressed, albeit for the wrong occasion.
