The Devil Speaks by Jean Jones

I LIKE it!!

Everything you don't get in your typical chat-with-the-devil material. I had fun.
I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?

I liked this one too.

However, I read it with shadow-shaded glasses, tinged by dark mists of nearly forgotten mystics.

Far from the most base of descriptions of fundamentalist "Devil" depictions, there is indeed a good serving of truth here. I'll have to read it several times to find out if this is in fact a satire/response to fundamentalism. Certainly much of it lines up with eastern philosophies.

Well done.

No, the devil never bothers with such little peasants, fodder and fuel for her wars and her fires, no , she peaks not to those like proposed here in.

She watches and shakes her head, maybe thinks that, but not wasting time, moves on to more challenging ones, ones of power who offer her a game worth playing, souls of higher value steaks, splayed on the table with the gods, there she makes.

And this, dear friend you question, I know how?
You don' t want to know, an answer this answer?
well, just let it go.

As a reader of the Satanic Bible by Anton LeVey - I can see the truth in what this author says. Anton LeVey said that he simply wanted to tell the truth, finally, without excuses, without remorse - so he wrote the Satanic Bible with the truth in mind. This poem echoes that truth: The reason people do things they'd usually think of as 'evil or lazy' is because they want to. Simple.
Headshrinkers will take your money for years and give you excuses for hatred and bad manners, but Satanism will shake you and tell you the truth about yourself: you do 'bad' things because you want to.
Interesting poem. I think I'll read it again.
Since the house is on fire - at least let us warm ourselves.

Your devil might not.

Folk lore however tells of a devil who cares about every soul;
No soul being too humbe for the devils attention.
