Refriderator by Thomas Reynolds

So many poems are written about memories around the living room hearth, but the kitchen is the true heart of the home. And the refrigerator is the heart of the kitchen. It’s nice to see this sentiment in a serious poem, instead of in a country song. Nice details while capturing a story in just a few words.

Along these lines, I am inspired to share a poem of my own.
I love you; he said – one more time – grabbing his boots from behind the couch. He planted a kiss on my cheek – one last time - while I noticed the fresh hickeys on his neck. Throwing his bag over his shoulder he smiled as he rushed out the door, down the stairs and into the sunshine of a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I looked up and saw his favorite brand of cereal on a shelf - and all I could do was stand in the kitchen repeating, “But I bought groceries for us, but I bought groceries for us…”
Since the house is on fire - at least let us warm ourselves.
