THEM by Stephen Jarrell Williams

This one is eerily reminiscent of an old Twilight Zone episode.

Aliens come to Earth preaching brotherhood and peace, promising that their only purpose is to serve man.

Too late, we discover on translation the alien text entitled To Serve Man is a cookbook.

Them

I really didn't see a Twilight Zone repeat in this poem. I saw it as a study in La Resistance - like during wwII, or the Iraqees. Either you believe THEY have come to give you democracy (or pepsi, or whatever) or you say "You'll never take my Freeeeeedoooom!" Both reactions are valid, but running into the woods to hide and plan and strike back is usually more effective. Colonies are breeding grounds for rebellion.
I like the last line - about the bottoms of their ships. It says, "I hate everything about you and you will never take away my Freeeeedoooom!"
Since the house is on fire - at least let us warm ourselves.
