Angel of Death by B. Whealton

His death is call "suicide by cop" a very dangerous and mean, chickenshit way of doing yourself in drunk or not.

This poem is based on a real event, a real death, and I think the poem is trying too hard to romanticize that event. It even makes death into a beautiful woman for Courtland to love. As I think Rick's comment makes clear, some readers won't be sympathetic to Courtland. I think the poet is trying to explain Courtland's actions somewhat in the poem. "This is why he did it: he was depressed and became infatuated with the idea of killing himself." I'm just not sure this poem succeeds if that was the goal.

Just an observation: the poem right above it is also about a conversation with 'Death'. Jean and Bruce are co-editors of 'Word Salad'. Just curious: did these poems come from a challange or maybe a conversation about Death?
Since the house is on fire - at least let us warm ourselves.
