Michelle gave birth last night! Lyn and I are now Grandparents. Welcome to the world, James Edward Fultz, born to Michelle Bennett & Marc Fultz on 11-7-2009 at 9:15 PM, 7 lbs. 8.5 oz.

Mother & child are doing fine and spending a lot of time sleeping. The Father is beside himself with pride.

Join me in a toast to the newborn,

Dan

As Charlene would say to Briscoe Darling on "The Andy Griffith Show", Aw pa, that song always makes you cry.

Dan and Lyn,

As one who remembers his first meeting with Michelle, at Aphelicon 2, this is a wonderful and marvelous announcement.

Hope springs eternal.

Now, the rest of us old farts have to move out of the way so we don't compete with young James for limited resources.

And the wheel turns.

When Valerie saw the photo she exclaimed, "How beautiful"!

You done good Dan!

I hope he grows up to be as wise as his grandpa.

Dan,

Your new grandson really is a cute little guy. Congratulations. It's interesting to me his last name is Fultz. Here in Arkansas, my closest family - outside my own siblings - are my cousins whose last name is Fultz. Maybe we are distantly related - no offense intended to you and your family - ha, ha, ha!

Congratulations again,

J. B.

It wouldn't surprise me at all, JB. Is there a branch of your cousins that lives In Virginia? 'Cause that's where Marc Fultz, Baby Jamie's Daddy, and his family are living. Although I believe Marc's dad was in the military and thus Marc's family moved around a lot.

Jamie has two Grandmothers, but three Grandfathers. I'm the Step-Grandpa, actually. Michelle's dad Phil was my wife's first husband- from before Lindsey left England. He's a really great guy. I respect him a lot. Michelle was born in England and is still a UK citizen, although she's been thinking about going for her US citizenship since Lyn and I got married.

Jamie has his father's dark good looks, from Marc's mother's side of the family. She's from the Philippines. But I think I can see some of Michelle's beauty in the lines of Jamie's face as well.

Both my parents have a fair amount of Cherokee Indian ancestry to add to the mix, so you can see this extended family is a bit of a mini-United Nations. :D

Michelle posted a movie file of Jaime over on her Facebook Profile page today. I don't know what format Facebook uses as their default, AVI or MOV or whatever. But he is just so darn cute!

Dan,

I don't know if my cousins have a Virginia branch or not. Most of the families in my family tree (a friend of mine says it's a vine, not a tree!) came from Kentucky and Tennessee, like most Arkansans here in the Ozarks. The one other connecting part is the Cherokee blood. My Fultz family does have Cherokee ancestry to some degree as well.

Anyway, your grandson does look like a cool little baby. Some babies really aren't very good looking (right after birth) but he is. I never had kids myself, so no grandkids but I have so many nephews, nieces, greats- and great-greats that I'm like a grandpa to half of them.

Later,

JB

Bugger that branch then! If your family comes from Tennessee and Kentucky, then you and *I* are cousins! My family is related to the Eastern two thirds of the state of Tennessee and the Southern half of Kentucky, as well as the Northern half of North Carolina, and many more besides. The European immigrant Hollifield & Griffith families spread their genes out with wild abandon. Welcome to the fold, Cousin.

I have at least five other step-grandchildren, but I wrote off my 1st wife's family decades ago. Some crimes cannot be forgiven easily. I only accept my 2nd wife's son and grandson, and Lindsey's children now. And my 50 or so Godchildren & their children, if you want to get technical. :)

Dan

Well, then, there you go

Well, then, Dan, we are cousins!

By the way, the baby's dad's name is Marc Fultz - well, I have a first cousin named Mac Fultz - how's that. Speaking of Mac Fultz, I play standup bass in what is a family band (Mac, his wife Pat, another cousin Nathan and me, Cousin Jerry) - we've been playing a lot here this summer and had a show last night. None of that is very relevant, just mentioning it is all.

Later,

J. B.
