Ars Poetica By Lawrence Buentello

Interesting. A utopian dystopian society. A society where everyone's perfectly happy in their job, where genetic engineering allows anyone to optimise to a specific path but mental reconditioning changes that path... and then, what there is being no more than a flimsy facade over which hollow people paint their false lives...

...except for those doomed by their wish for freedom to a life imprisonment which is greater freedom than the prison of a society they are locked away from.

I really like the continual inversions of expectations.

(It reminds me of the man, in "So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish", who built an inside-out house and called it "Outside the Asylum" - the point being that the world as a whole was obviously mad, so why not make an asylum to put it in?)
