Safety Dance by G. C. Dillon
This doesn't quite work. I like the idea - neat variation on an old theme - and I like the punchline. There's some good wit here too: "hey, it's my recovered memory", "You'll always have Paris".
I think the writing lets it down. The first few paragraphs are clumsy. All right, I was tired when I read them, but I was confused by the end of the fourth. Were we on a cruise, or on land? At a dancing class, or what? Then the change from Maurice to Megrim is so understated it loses all impact.
Still, nice touch not to have an invincible protagonist.
