So AUGUST is the cruelest month?

... for authors who were hoping for comments, anyway. 12 comments (including 2 in the "August issue is online" topic) in 7-and-a-bit days. And Nate hasn't even posted this month's Challenge yet!

See? It's not my fault. :)

I work close to a double day on Tuesdays, so I'm not much use by the time I finish with Wednesday's shift. I have read 4 stories so far, but haven't had time to post comments yet.

But I will, soon. Waiting for the brain fog to clear, but the forecast isn't promising.

Gee, apparently whining works. At least Gareth DJ and Nate are stepping up to the Critics' Corner microphone ...

You fools! Obviously, you haven't read your T. S. Eliot. Otherwise you'd know that APRIL is the cruelest month! :P ;D

YOU'D LIKE ME TO THINK THAT!

I see from your profile that you were born in May, and every poet knows that May is full of darling buds, which you would keep as close to you as possible, so I clearly cannot read the post in front of you.

BUT, you've also been an editor, and editors have to read a lot of slushpile entries. Editors *hate* slushpile entries and would keep them as far away from themselves as possible, so I clearly cannot read the post in front of me!

More like pate de gaakh gras. (Well, it isn't really pate -- the pieces have to be big enough to be moving, or the Klingons will refuse to eat it.) ::)

Re: So AUGUST is the cruelest month?

Well, I've tried to make August a little less cruel, at least in terms of the poetry!  (Being a leo, I would hate for August to be seen as a cruel month.)

I hope my comments helped make August a bit kinder.  I'll see if I can do the same for September...

Cheers!

And with the party over on Galaxy Ave, we're actually up to a respectable count. Basically, we do all right.

Hey, the entire features *section* tends to get ignored. And I've been putting stuff in there too. New stuff, every month!

I may pout.

You mean the "Features" button isn't just a decoration?

Maybe if you changed the button label to "Nude Celebrities!"? Of course, the comments would probably be a bit rude, but we are all starved for feedback around here...

Re: So AUGUST is the cruelest month?

.. Thus it appears that far from the cruelest month, we did just fine for August. Because someone can't resist replying to me, my post guarantees #100.

I have a new perspective we can use... let's suppose that many months will collect posts at an erratic pace. Yet looking over the last several months, we haven't had fewer than 60 in over a year.

Suppose we consider 60 posts our minimum, and instead of saying that any particular month is a "cruel month", we can all chip in to make our "standard minimum". Then if we make it to 100 posts, we can all be pleased that some story/stories were especially noticeable to garner the extra discussion.

The number of posts is also related to the number of "seed" posters. I think we lost a few of our regulars somewhere in that 2006 period, but Aphelion can be proud to say that it's working on the "second net generation".
