Planetfall by Teri Wachowiak
great imagery, like the broken bones of technology and hell being anywhere tragedy lurks, even places that aren't cold. i assume it's about colonists off to another planet that wasn't as inviting and full of promise as expected, and where escaping a dying wolrd didn't turn out to be the new life and beginning they wanted.
what hurt the flow and drama of this poem for me was the reprise or chorus, not sure what the term for it is. i mean, when and where their ship went down. yes, ambiguous since we don't know whether it crashed and suffering ensued or simply arrived as scheduled, and misery commenced anyway, but the refrain (?) failed to grab me. also, the last verse was a bit too optimistic for a sworn doom sayer as myself.

overall, an excellent ditty with mixed emotions.

Lee

I found the rythym of it infectous. It echoed in my head for hours after I read it.
Dan
My reading - and I could be wrong here - is that Teri is describing a specific planetfall: Cottman IV, otherwise known as Darkover ;D

For myself, I liked the refrain (it works better to music, but I left the guitar chords out of the printed version :))

Marion Zimmer Bradly's Darkover series. Good books, they've been around a long while. You ought to look them up.
Dan
