Karma Cleansing by Ed Sullivan

I like this quiet little story. The setting reinforces the theme of silence: we expect contemplative religious to live without conversation. As the dialogue progresses, I think the voice that the unnamed protagonist hears represents his conscience berating him. Whether he feels guilt or satisfaction may be for the reader to decide. The conclusion gives an excellent summary.

Re: Karma Cleansing by Ed Sullivan

Seems to me he'd do better serving people, rather than an inanimate idol. Evidently, no one told him that. On the other hand, if he did enough good for the living, maybe the ghost would go away, and he'd be lonely. And maybe he knows this.
I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?
