Lament for the Toys of J. F. Sebastian by Jean Jones

What ever happens to all the interesting supporting characters we never hear from again?
Remember: when people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong. – Neil Gaiman

Do they get gigs as extras in other stories? Are there "character characters" out there specialising in bit parts? Is there a reason a particular character reminds you of one from another book?

I have three little kids. And so for me the Toy Story movies pretty much answer Jean's question in depth. Some of them will be handed down to others who will love and appreciate them, some will end up as oddities in a collection or museum, some will be bagged-up and stored in the attic, but eventually they will all end up incinerated at the landfill... unless, of course, they are saved by a deus ex machine in the form of a giant claw.

"The clawwwwwwwww! The claw is our master. The claw chooses who will go and who will stay."

He envies them, wishing the unthinking automaton, the life of the Matrix copper tops, hope in an Easter Bunny.
