Hole-Hearted by H.Y. Hill

An entertaining fantasy story with some interesting twists in it.

I thought there was quite a lot of back story being delivered in the middle sections this story though. And while the confessional is a nice tool for accomplishing this, the story does feel a little heavy on "telling" vs "showing." I really didn't think we needed quite as much back story on Matthew for instance.

I liked the ending though.

On a technical note, watch out for the homophones:

His mind could even here Matthew's screams

He pulled the arrow from the whole in his chest.
